Specialist academic studies in Sports medicine
Department of Sport Medicine organizes classes for Specialist academic studies in Sports medicine at the Medical School, University of Belgrade.
Specialist academic studies at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade are organized as one-year studies. Total ECTS is 60.
Competition for admission at the Specialist academic studies is announced every year at the end of September. The conditions of the competition are completed School of Medicine, English language skills to the level of communication options and monitoring of scientific literature, as well as basic skills in using computers.
Structure of the program:
In the first semester all modules of specialist academic studies have four compulsory subjects (18 ECTS total):
- Introduction to scientific work (3 ECTS)
- Informatics for researchers in the field of medical sciences (3 ECTS)
- Statistics for researchers in the field of medical sciences (9 ECTS)
- Write, publish, present and evaluate scientific work (3 ECTS).
There are four more courses that are chosen for the first semester of Specialist academic studies in Sports medicine at the accreditation:
- Clinical research in medicine (3 ECTS).
- Physiology of the nervous and endocrine system (3 ECTS)
- Physiology of the cardiovascular system (3 ECTS)
- Basics of immunology (3 ECTS)
In the second semester, of the Sport Medicine module there are two compulsory subjects (20 ECTS total):

- Adaptation of organic systems on physical activity (10 ECTS)
- Functional testing in the field of sports medicine (10 ECTS)
Besides the compulsory subjects in the second semester, students choose one of three elective courses:
- Nutrition and supplementation of athletes (5 ECTS)
- Sports cardiology (5 ECTS)
- Sports orthopedics (5 ECTS).
Within each course (both in the first and in the second semester) classes are held through lectures, exercises and seminars. Each course ends with examination. Student receives the points provided for the course when he/she passes the examination. Examinations are taken in examination periods that are established at the beginning of the school year. Exams are submitted electronically to the examination period. Student has the right to take examination in the same subject up to three times until the beginning of the next school year. If the student does not pass the exam, it is necessary that student re-listens the teaching of the subject.
After attended and completed the compulsory subjects in the first semester, student access to the application of final specialist academic paper. The recommendation of the Department of Sport Medicine is that the final paper should be written in the form of original scientific work. Registration of the topic of the final paper may be submitted to the Council for specialist education in a special form at the beginning of the second semester. That form is presented by specific questionnaire for reporting the final specialist academic paper.
After approved topic of final paper, completed the second semester of classes and passed all the exams, the student acquires the right to submit the final specialist academic paper to the Council for specialist education for the evaluation. The deadline for submission of work is one year from the date of approval of the topic. Final specialist academic paper is defended publicly in front of the three members Commission. The Commission is nominated by the Council for specialist education (form attached). After defended the final paper, the student acquires the scientific title: “Academic specialists of Sports medicine”.
Specialist academic studies can be completed in a maximum of double number of the school years required of its realization (two academic years).
